A tolerator is someone who thinks that all people are equal, but are too cowardly to allow freedom of thought. The problem with this quote is that it gives the impression that bigotry and tolerance are the same thing. There are two different things that can be called bigotry, which are hateful speech and hate actions.

The first type of bigotry does not tolerate any other thought or opinion. Hate speech is still free speech even if it offends someone. One man should not be forced to think the way another does simply because his idea may make him feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

The second type of bigotry does not tolerate any other opinion or thought. Hate actions are not free speech, because they are done to force another person to do something they don’t want to do or believe in. Even if no harm or bad intentions were involved, one man should not be forced to see things the way another man wants him to see them.
